Necessity being the mother of invention the Osicka Selection Wines were conceived out of the very low yielding 2020 vintage.  Our mature dry grown vineyard suffered its lowest yield since 2007 and there was an opportunity to work with growers we knew and had ongoing relationships with. In 2021 there was plenty of good fruit to select from, in fact, we were able to help these growers place their fruit at a sustainable price and maximise the outcome for their efforts.  On top of this the 2021 season was particularly kind for wine grapes in Heathcote.  We had also upgraded our processing equipment for the 2021 harvest, with a new Oscillys destemmer and sorting equipment meaning that our fermenters were filled with only perfectly ripe whole berries.  This meant we are getting an even purer expression of our wines.  We have in recent years also invested in a number of larger format French Oak Vats, so oak now plays a more background and textural role in the wines expression.
